Why Only Trained Professionals Should Be Allowed to Manage Laser Technology

It's always been a losing battle for those who have tried to remove unwanted body hair by shaving, waxing, or electrolysis. Now one of the fastest growing cosmetic procedures since its approval by the Food and Drug Association, laser hair removal is recommended by doctors and day spas as the best method of eliminating hair in different parts of the body.

While laser treatment has proven to be the most effective of hair removal techniques, it does not remove unwanted hair completely. It takes a lot of treatments and a lot of dollars to spend if you want to achieve the best and barest results. The treatment is a risky option also. The treatment could lead to the scarring and pigment changes of certain skin types. A patient may suffer burns and blisters if the person doing the procedure is not careful or trained properly.

The lasers are aimed at the melanin pigment of the hair follicle. Generally, the laser is designed to go for the dark follicle and not the lighter skin surface, leaving it totally unscathed. A series of treatments done in a year will rarely remove all the hair, but will take out a significant percentage of it. It is easy to control the hair that has been left behind after the treatment since it is not as heavy or as thick as before.

Before people would see a noticeable improvement in their conditions, they would have to be treated at least four to six times within a three month time scope. Lasers may only do significant damage to growing hairs, but will not be able to affect hairs that are already dead. It would be necessary to keep coming back so that you can get rid as much of your hair as possible while they are in their growth cycle.

Light skinned and dark haired people are best suited to receive laser hair removal. Lasers aren't really suited for those with dark or tanned skin because they target pigment. The reason is that the laser can't distinguish between the melanin in the hair and the melanin in the skin. Thus, the treatment would often be the reason for blisters, burns, and scars in the skin of a person who is dark skinned. Highly professional doctors often do a test patch to check whether the treatment would work on an individual's skin and hair.

Look for a doctor who specializes in hair removal on dark skin if your skin is the type that tans easily and rarely burns. While doctors may be experienced in treating patients with dark skin, the procedure would last longer and would not work as well. Don't undergo hair removal if you have tanned skin. Although the treatment is being done in so many places and by so many doctors, the best people to give the treatment because of their experience are dermatologists and plastic surgeons.

Experts state that it is better for patients to be treated in a doctor's office instead of spa. In several states, laser hair removal procedures can only be done if performed, or otherwise supervised, by a doctor. Lasers, when not managed well, can be very dangerous. 50 percent of dermatologists mentioned in a recent survey that they do damage repair on those who have been affected by the laser in laser hair removal.

The sensation that you experience during the treatment is like that of a rubber band striking your skin. If the pain you feel hurts more than a snapping rubber band, then that usually means that the procedure is not being done properly. The experience may not be enjoyable, but it's better than getting a shot. Doctors often use lasers with cooling tips or cooling sprays. Temporarily, the skin would appear red or crusty.

The cost of laser hair removal varies depending on the body part and how hairy it is. Bikini line treatment would be from $300 to $700 a session, whereas a back treatment would get as high as $1,000 per session. 8 or 10 sessions are sometimes necessary for certain cases.
