The internet has always been a rich source of entertainment and information-but almost never both great entertainment and serious and valuable information at the same time. But that was before the advent of personality quizzes. Online quizzes are rampant throughout the World Wide Web to such an extent that the days of pop quizzes ruining school days are things of the past. Well, realistically, pop quizzes still ruin school kids' moods throughout the educational system, but still, the point is that quizzes are taken for entertainment purposes now, thanks to the internet. Though as aforementioned, it's hard to find a quiz that entertains you and returns results that are valuable or hold some meaning that actually hefts weight. Most of the time when you take an online quiz you just get your score and see how you fare against others or laugh at the result because that's what it was intended for. Well with personality quizzes backed by actual psychometric tables, you get entertained while obtaining some valuable information that should be taken with much more gravity than other quizzes.
Psychometrics is a branch of the psychological sciences that deals with "measuring" personality traits in individuals usually via a specially designed questionnaire. The answer key is cross-referenced against psychometric tables or values and the results of the quiz are analyzed to get an idea of the traits the person who took the quiz has . Unfortunately, since psychometrics is still a relatively new science and one that deals with what was thought to be values that could not be numerically measured in any way, online quizzes that have accurate psychometric data behind them are few and far between. But there are miniature-like versions that can still serve some of the scientific purposes of a psychometric quiz though geared towards entertainment. There's really just a fascinating mystery about how answering a bunch of questions that don't have right answers (often psychometric questions measure the quiz-taker's responses, opinions, or beliefs; as such, no right or wrong answers exist) can tell you something about yourself. Not only can it be entertaining and puzzlingly erratic while you take the quiz, but the results you get afterward are revealing and at times enlightening. This aspect of a personality quiz entertains while providing substantially important information-something few other quizzes or activities can do. So what does this mean for you and for the science of psychometrics?
Understanding what's around him is what man has always tried to do since he started walking upright . Understanding one's self is what he tried to do next; and so far, he's only gotten yards away from where he started. The advent of online quizzes makes it easier for psychometrics to conduct hypothetical quiz administration to perfect the measurements and tables used to ascertain levels of personality traits. People aren't just introverts or extroverts; there are shades of grey in between. Making personality quizzes available for anyone in the world to take can make scientific advancements not possible otherwise come to light. And all of this while giving you not just valuable data about yourself, but an entertaining experience as well.
