There are numerous medicinal treatments for back pain, and these include both prescription and over-the-counter drugs. You need to consult your physician before you begin taking any new medicines. Over the counter pain medication is sometimes all that is needed, but other times prescription strength medicine or painkillers are necessary.

Certain conditions where paralysis results can be remedied by some forms of surgery, depending on the situation and extremity of the case. There are other rare back conditions that may arise in which back surgery is the only option, as well. Degenerative disc disease is a painful back condition that affects many people.
